GRIFFIN
Many, many thanks to all of you who sent in name suggestions. It has been a busy summer but we have been trying a few names out and have decided upon Griffin. This was suggested by Lisa Lawrenson who will be receiving one of our 2011 calendars, once they have been printed, together with a keyring and a fridge magnet featuring Griffin and made up just for her.
This donkey was bought at auction in December 2009 and was frightened to death of everything. He had never been handled and was very nervous. It took five people to get him into the lorry to bring him home!
He is getting much better now, improving all the time and will be having his teeth done at the end of February.
He has been inspected and measured by Liz Ellis of the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary and the figures look like this:
14hh
700kg in weight
He is a four year old gelding, very strong (no need to go the gym this one!) and is still filling out. You can see how big he is next to Mike in the left picture above - Mike is 6'1".
Mike intends to use him for harness ploughing, removing cut wood from locations where you can't get a vehicle and pulling a cart to deliver firewood loads locally.
Pictures of him at work will follow as and when we have time!
